About us

Blurring the lines between retro and modern.

We build what we want to ride - retro, heritage, and vintage frames. This whole idea started when we bought a few sick retro frames (a couple of 90s Bianchi Bravas and a 90s Gitane CX bike), but... downtube shifters? And after riding fully integrated bikes for a few years, we're cable snobs and wanted that clean look. So, we thought, why cant we have both? So we decided to put 12s wireless shifting on vintage rim brake bikes.
Policies and Info
Shipping
We ship all of our products, including full bikes. Unfortunately, shipping things as big as a bike (as well as  the packaging materials to keep it all safe) can get expensive. We factor that in and help cover part of this cost ourselves, allowing us to offer a simple, flat rate for all of our full bikes.

While we try to make the setup as easy as possible out of the box with how we package it, we strongly recommend taking it to a bike shop for an experienced mechanic to reassemble it for you.

We're located in Los Angeles, and pickup/meetup is always free.  For this, just select the Pick Up option at checkout, and we'll reach out to you shortly about meetup details.

Customization
By nature, everything we do is custom, and we're always happy to build a bike for you specifically.  So if you like a bike but want to swap out a component, we'll work with you to make it happen, including partial or full rebuilds. No additional labor costs - it might just take a bit longer for you to get your new ride.

If you want something completely custom from scratch, or have a frame already that you'd like us to upgrade, we'd love to do it as well. For anything custom, send us a message or email and we'll get started.

Groupset Versatility
One of the best things about WheelTop groupsets is they are completely future-proof AND retro-proof - you're not limited to any number of gears - you want to upgrade to 13 speed? Easy. Want to put a true retro wheelset on there that only fits 7 speed? Just as easy. You can change it in a second on their app, as well as indexing gears individually, seeing battery levels, retrieving data, etc. so you always have perfect shifting.

Warranty
Every bike we sell has been used before, and some loved for tens of thousands of miles.  Although all of our bikes have been professionally inspected and carefully restored, they are still sometimes decades old.  Because of this, we're unable to offer any sort of warranty on any of our bikes.

Returns and Refunds
Our only goal is to put you on a ride that becomes your favorite bike. Period. Unfortunately, you often need to ride a bike first before deciding if you like it.

And this is where we're different than other bike companies. If you're not happy with your bike, even after giving it a try for a hundred miles or so, you can return it for a full refund or swap it out for another one - all you need to do is cover the shipping.  Reach out to us at sam@retroridelabs.cc or through the contact form to get this process started.

Risk and Liability
Always ride safe. If you pick up in person, our pro mechanics will have the bike absolutely dialed, but if you get your bike in the mail, you must have it built by an experienced mechanic at a bike shop.  Unless you are an experienced bike wrench yourself, please do not attempt to reassemble it by yourself.  If you're unsure about anything down the road, have it inspected by your local bike shop. Retro Cycle Labs is not responsible for crashes, mechanical failures, or you getting hurt on a bicycle that we have assembled, restored, or sold.
